Google AdSense is a quick and easy way for SBI website owners to include advertising on their site. And; when your readers click those Google Ads, you get paid money. Simple really. But; Monetizing Your SBI Site with Google Adsense is not as easy as it first seems.
Adding Google Ads to Your Website…
Google advertising is served up by the Google Adsense system and the ads shown are related to what your visitors are looking for. In other words, it’s contextual or content sensitive.
For example, if your website is about crochet, then you can be pretty sure that the Ads served up by the adsense system will be about crochet. In fact, it’s even better than that, because Google AdSense looks at the content of each individual page on your site and the ads served will match the subject and content on each webpage. It’s completely automatic and you should never really need to worry about it.
Participation in Google Adsense is also completely free and it’s definitely a valid and profitable way for you to monetize your online business.
However, there are a couple of flies in that ointment
As much as the Get-Rich-Quick gurus like to scream how easy it is to make money with adsense, it’s not. There are a few important points you need to be aware of before you try for your slice of the google adsense pie.
1. Google Adsense Earnings …
Google pays you a percentage of what the advertiser pays google; and google only pays out when you have reached the relevant payment threshold. Around $100 in earnings for the USA and £60 for the UK. Other countries vary.
- If your content is related to a subject that does not invite a significant level of interest, then earnings per click can be very low. This can mean a payment as low as 1 cent per click but it is normally 5 to 10 cents per click.
- On average statistics show that only 1 or 2 percent of visitors click on a google ad. So, simple arithmetic tells us that we need a minimum of 100 visitors to generate 1 click.
- As an example … If your content generates ads that average just 5 cents per click you will have to attract a minimum of 1000 visitors to make $1.00 ( (1000×2%=20)x5)=100. Spread over a seven day week that means you have to attract around 150 visitors per day to make $1.00 per week.
- Now work out how many visitors you need each day to earn $1000 each month.
Of course, not all subjects pay so little per click. But; how difficult do you think it will be to take your brand new website to the first page of Google in a niche where the earning per click are nearer $5.00 and the competition is fierce.
2. Visitor Traffic …
Attracting content focused visitors is the single most difficult thing you have to do with your website. Which is why the Get-Rich-Quick gurus are always selling you systems that show you how to get 40 squillion visitors to your site in less time than it takes you to click their Buy Now button.
It does not and will not happen. Here’s how a new website based on a blogging system usually attracts traffic, once its been indexed by the search engines.
- Days 1 to 25, Good traffic for your new site
- Days 25 to 30, Steady traffic for your fairly new site
- Days 35 to 90, Slowly dwindling traffic
- Months 3 to 6, Steady drop in traffic and any earnings
First of all notice the timescales, you’re 6 months in and your traffic hasn’t stabilized. It’s now that you realize it’s by design. Search engines can’t take every site at face value and if they don’t treat every new site the same they will simply cycle through new websites every month and none of them would ever grow into an authority site.
It’s also at this point that 90% of new online business owners quit. They become disillusioned and walk away from their online business completely. The other 10% that stick with their online business plan and move past the hump, are the ones who go on to build the foundation of a growing online income.
Building visitor traffic, (and the above is only general traffic not content focused traffic), is a long term objective. Google is only going to send keyword focused visitors once it knows you are in it for the long haul; that it can depend on you to satisfy the needs and wants of the visitors it sends.
And; Google Adsense will only ramp up your earnings per click, when those 1000′s of happy keyword focused visitors are clicking consistently.
- Then and only then will Google Adsense charge more for placing ads on your site because it can tell its advertisers they will definitely get traffic from ads on your site.
- Then and only then will your online business start earning good money from Google Adsense.
So, to summarize …
